$20.00 Lunch Meeting

Speaker:

Eric L. O’Neill, P.E., BEMP, LEED AP, is the Manager of Program Engineering for
Michaels Energy. He has 10 years of engineering experience and is a registered

Eric also provides implementation design assistance, functional performance testing,
employee training, and post-implementation utility bill monitoring as follow-on
services to retro-commissioning studies. In addition, he has also provided demand
side management technical support and ASHRAE Level II audits for Alliant Energy in
Iowa, and energy modeling. Eric holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin,
Madison.

Presentation:

Everyone wants a building that runs perfectly every day of the year, where every occupant is happy, and the
building costs almost nothing to run. In reality, aligning those three priorities can be tricky. Rushing a controls
upgrade can lead to headache operating the building; trying to cut costs can lead to poor performance; and
knee-jerk responses to occupant comfort complaints results in high energy bills.

The happy medium can be found, with careful, proactive attention to detail. A retrocommissioning (RCx) study
can be a key tool in identifying opportunities for better, more efficient building operation that doesn’t sacrifice
performance or comfort. This presentation will provide an overview of an RCx study, discuss the kinds of
measures building operators implement, and share some case studies from successful projects.
