Presentation:

The largest operational expense in a building is the HVAC system. Critical applications employing HEPA filtration in aseptic filling and compounding facilities, tuberculosis isolation suites, and Life Science and BioSafety applications can be very expensive to operate.  Recent changes in ASHRAE Standard 52.2-2017, “ Method of Testing General Ventilation Air-Cleaning Devices for Removal Efficiency by Particle Size” and ASHRAE Standard 170-2013,”Ventilation of Health Care Facilities” highlight recent advancements in high purity filter media technologies that offer greater system integrity and efficiencies while decreasing system operational costs. The presentation will provide a brief history of HEPA filtration, and highlight Life Sciences and BioSafety applications where HEPA filtration is required by application and Code. The presenter will introduce improved HEPA filtration technologies that improve system integrity and economy.  System design and selection software will be demonstrated that will assist the designer in selecting the appropriate high efficiency filtration system for the specific application.
