Jan 20 11:30AM-1pm  - Rochester Section Monthly Meeting : Dr. Patrick Tebbe - Sparking Agility and Resilience in Engineering

https://mnashrae.starchapter.com/meetinginfo.php?id=408
January 20, 2026
11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
 Bleu Duck Kitchen
14 4th St SW
Rochester, MN 55902
SPEAKER

Dr. Patrick Tebbe is a passionate advocate for innovation and student success. As Director of the Undergraduate Research Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato—and former Chair of the Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department—he champions hands-on learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. Dr. Tebbe advises the university’s ASHRAE student chapter, helping future engineers connect classroom knowledge with real-world impact. Nationally, he contributes to shaping the profession’s future through his role on the NSPE Emerging Technologies Committee and active participation in Engineering Change Lab (ECL-USA) initiatives since 2023.

PRESENTATION

At the 2023 ECL-USA Engineering Ideas Institute, leaders from across engineering disciplines tackled a big question: How can engineering support society in an uncertain, complex, and rapidly changing world? Using scenario thinking, participants uncovered signals of change, critical uncertainties, and forces shaping the future—then turned those insights into actionable recommendations to advance engineering’s mission of responsible stewardship of technology. This talk will demystify the scenario process used to spark agility and resilience, highlight key recommendations from the final report that point to a new sense of engineering agency and optimism, and connect the dots between these insights and the work of ASHRAE and the HVAC&R industry.

One way to keep your chapter awards (PAOE, Chapter Service Award, Regional Award of Merit, Certificate of Appreciation, etc.) is to store them electronically on the chapter’s website. ASHRAE Headquarters does not currently provide electronic copies of awards; however chapters are encouraged to take digital photos of their awards.  Simply send Digital photos of your awards to the Honors and awards chair to be posted to the chapter's website.

MN Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA)

The MN Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA) Committee had our first facility tour of the year this past November, when approximately (15) of our members visited the newly-constructed Lee & Penny Anderson Arena, at the University of St. Thomas (UST). The tour was only about a month after the arena was open to the public, so it was an exciting opportunity to be able to be some of its first visitors. This multi-use facility is home to UST’s men’s and women’s hockey and basketball teams, as well as a concert venue, so the HVAC demands of the building are quite unique.

We also hosted a social happy hour in the fall and are looking to plan another one in the near future, in collaboration with the chapter’s DEI Committee. We are ALWAYS on the lookout for new ideas for industry tours and activities, so please feel free to email us at [email protected] if you have any suggestions or are wondering how to join YEA.
